Q. I have a small forecourt area in front of the house, about 4ft in length from the house wall to pavement wall which is around 3ft in height, could I position my hippobag there for collection please?
A. Yes, this shouldn’t be a problem at all. Hippobags must be positioned within 4 metres of the roadside, so our crane can reach the bag and we can lift over small walls or fences, so long as our driver has direct access to the bag in order to fit the chains to the bag handles.
Q. When the hippo bag is collected do they leave another bag in its place so you can re-use this service again or do i need to buy another bag for next time ?
A. Due to health & safety reasons Hippobags are for single trip use only, so you will need to purchase a new bag when required, after your old one has been collected. You can purchase a new Hippobag from nationwide DIY stores B&Q, Focus, Wickes or Travis Perkins.
Q. Can you lift a Hippobag over a 6.5ft wall? It will have soil and rubble in it. Or will I have to fill the bag at the side of my house?
A. Unfortunately the maximum reach height of one of our lorry’s is 6ft and therefore we won't be able to lift the bag over your wall. I would advise that it would be best to position your Hippobag at the side of your house, but please bear in mind that the collection vehicle will still need access to the bag and it will need to be positioned at least four meters from the road. Soil and rubble waste types are both fine to be collected by Hippowaste. For further positioning instructions please refer to either our main website www.hippowaste.co.uk or the bag label printed inside the bag.

Q. What does the largest bag open out to? We have a selection of waste to dispose of varying types from a sofa to cardboard boxes.
A. Thank you for your enquiry. The Megabag can hold up to 1.5 tonnes of waste and opens out to 180 x 90 x 70cm. It is ideal for bigger, bulkier items such as doors and kitchen units and can even take an entire bathroom suite. With regards to whether the Megabag will accommodate a sofa, this will all depend on its size. But if it fits in the bag we will happily take it away for you.

Q. Do you operate the smaller trucks in Bristol as my road is less than 12ft wide? Also, can HIPPOBAGs™ be filled and stored on the road as my front garden isn't big enough to store the bag?
A. HIPPOWASTE™ operate 7.5 tonne vehicles with a capacity of 2.5 tonnes within the Bristol area. However, an extra charge in addition to the standard collection price will apply for requesting this vehicle. The charge incurred will be £36.50 for the first bag booked and £11.75 for any subsequent bags collected from the same place at the same time. With regards to placing your HIPPOBAG™ on the public highway, you will need prior permission from your local authority to do so.
Q. We are about to move house and want to clear out some clutter. We want to get rid of an old 28" TV with stand, an old radio and possibly some old cleaning products. Are we OK with putting these into a HIPPOBAG™ for disposal and which items generally are no-no's?
A. As there are very limited disposal options, unfortunately we are unable to accept television sets. Your Local Authority Civic Amenity site should be able to accept and dispose of your TV - contact your Local Authority for further details. HIPPOWASTE™ is generally able to accept any type of waste which is classed as non-hazardous. Cleaning products may also be a problem as, unless the containers are empty, the liquid can still be hazardous. For a full list of prohibited waste types please refer to our website:

Q. Where can I leave a HIPPOBAG™ if I live in a flat? I have no pavement or verges.
A. If you don’t have room on your private property and need to place your HIPPOBAG™ on the public highway, you will need to get prior permission from your Local Authority. Alternatively, if your flat happens to have a private car park then you could position the bag there providing there is enough room for the collection vehicle to access it without the obstruction of parked cars. If you require further details please call our friendly customer service team on 0845 850 0 850 or visit www.hippobag.co.uk for full positioning instructions.

Q. If I bought two HIPPOBAGs™ would the delivery be charged on one or two bags?
A. When you are ready to book the collection of your HIPPOBAGs™ you will need to pay the full price for your first bag (£49.50 for a MIDIBAG £69.50 for a MEGABAG) and for any second or subsequent bags you will be entitled to a £6 discount on the collection price providing it is booked from the same location at the same time. If you are buying online from the likes of Wickes, Focus or Tesco Direct then you will need to contact these companies to ascertain whether you would be required to pay a delivery charge for each bag. Unfortunately you can’t purchase the bags directly from HIPPOWASTE™ at this stage, you will need to go through one of our stockists which includes all leading DIY retailers including B&Q and Homebase.

Q. We're currently in the process of digging up our garden and would like to know what your collection capabilities are? As we're in a terraced house we don't have the option of leaving the bag out front for collection although there is road access to the rear garden. With this in mind, what is the reach height you can clear for collection for one of your MIDIBAGs?
A. There should be no problem lifting the HIPPOBAG™ out of your back garden providing the collection representative can access the bag via a gate enabling him to secure the lifting chains on to the bag. We do advise that the HIPPOBAG™ should be positioned within 4 metres of the public highway which must be at least 3.65 metres wide to accommodate the collection vehicle. The road access should also be wide enough for the lorry to turn into. The maximum reach height to lift a HIPPOBAG™ is 6ft.
Lisa
Q. I am on my way to get one of your HIPPOBAGs™. If I fill it in my back yard can it be lifted over the wall which is 6.5 feet high?
A. Unfortunately the maximum reach height of one of our lorries is 6ft and therefore we won’t be able to lift the bag over your wall. I would advise that you either position your HIPPOBAG™ in the front garden or on your driveway, but please bear in mind that the collection vehicle will need access to the bag.
Lisa
Q. Would your lorry be able to pick up from a small front garden? We have a 3ft wall to the front and wall is 2.5 metres away from the front of the house. All other access is ok.
A. As long as the collection vehicle can gain access to the bag this shouldn’t be a problem, providing there are no other obstructions i.e. parked cars and overhead cables. We advise that the bag will need to be positioned at least 4 meters from the road.
Sarah
Q. Can the bags take garden soil away? I would like to dig down my garden to a lower level.
A. Yes, we can certainly take the soil away for you. There are just a couple of points to bear in mind when filling your bag. As a guide you should only fill 2/3 of your HIPPOBAG™ with heavy soil to ensure the bag does not exceed its weight limit.
