Duty of Care for Householders

It's not rubbish - it could cost you £5,000! Householders across England and Wales now face such fines if they fail to take steps to ensure their waste is passed onto authorised waste carriers. It follows the introduction of new 'Duty of Care' legislation that came into force last November to help reduce the amount of household waste being fly-tipped each year.

Last year 55 per cent of fly-tipping - around 500,000 incidents - involved household rubbish that was dumped by operators posing as legitimate waste carriers. To help our customers understand more about this legislation and where their responsibilities lie, HIPPOWASTE™ has produced a free Duty of Care factsheet that outlines exactly how to dispose of your waste legally and ensure it's in safe hands.

Many individuals and businesses have already been found guilty of failing to comply with the new Duty of Care obligations. The hefty fines enforced reflects the fact that fly-tipping is now being taken extremely seriously across the UK as it is estimated to cost £100-150 million of tax payers' money every year. Extra care is therefore needed when arranging private skip or pick-up operators to collect larger items of waste.

HIPPOWASTE™ is a registered waste carrier. Therefore by using the HIPPOBAG™ and supportive waste collection and disposal service, you can therefore rest assured that your waste is disposed of in a responsible way that supports your Duty of Care obligations.
